NBC plans to announce on Wednesday its plan to install Mr. Fallon as the show’s sixth host at the conclusion of the network’s coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia. NBC also is to confirm reports that it plans to shake up the axes of the television industry by moving the show from its longtime home in Los Angeles to its birthplace, New York.

February Sweep-based Estimates Published..
Nielsen data arrived on our client's server early yesterday morning and I got busy.
Clients were sent their own February 2013 based Selling Books yesterday afternoon, and after hearing back from clients, we published inventories and estimates to client servers at dawn today.
Premium clients now have not only their own station's planner, but competitive stations have been updated as well, including Feb13-based estimates for Second Quarter Prime and Specials on ABC, CBS and Fox.
If your TV station would like assistance with February 2013 Sweeps data, just give us a call.

Don't Make Fun of NBC's Ratings

“For the first time in history NBC is going to finish fifth in the ratings period,” Mr. Leno said. “We are behind the Spanish-language network Univision — or as we call it here in Los Angeles: Cinco de Ratings.” He added a series of rapid-fire jokes about how bad off NBC is including: “It’s so bad, ‘The Biggest Loser’ isn’t just a TV show anymore; it’s our new motto.” And: “It’s so bad, NBC called Manti Te’o and asked him to bring in some imaginary viewers.”
NBC has aggressively denied recent reports that it plans to replace Jay Leno soon as host of “The Tonight Show,” but the network’s top entertainment executive, Robert Greenblatt, recently stirred up a bit of a feud with the late-night star over jokes about the network.
Three executives close to the situation reported this week that Mr. Greenblatt had taken offense to monologue jokes Mr. Leno made last month in the wake of news stories about NBC’s ratings struggles and how the network had fallen into fifth place in the sweeps month of February — behind the Spanish-language network Univision.
Specifically, on the night of Feb. 28, Mr. Leno referenced the news about NBC’s falling into fifth place by telling a series of jokes:

Mr. Greenblatt, who has the main responsibility for the network’s prime-time ratings, fired off an e-mail to Mr. Leno, according to those who were aware of the events, and complained. The executives who know about the conflict all asked not to be identified because of their ongoing dealings with NBC.
After the first e-mail from Mr. Greenblatt, two of the executives who know what transpired reported,there was an exchange of pointed e-mails between Mr. Leno and Mr. Greenblatt.
One of the executives who saw the exchange said that Mr. Leno was taken by surprise by Mr. Greenblatt’s comments and strongly defended himself, citing the fact that late-night stars poking fun “at their masters,” as the executive said, is in the long tradition of late-night comedy. Every late-night star, going back at least as far as Johnny Carson, has taken shots at network fortunes within the nightly monologue.
A representative for Mr. Leno said the comedian would not comment on the situation. Mr. Greenblatt was in meetings and was not reachable Friday night, a spokesman said.

Huge Changes in NBC Schedule in April
Here's the press release:
READY FOR LOVE
- Will now air Tuesdays, beginning April 9 (9-11 p.m. ET) following “The Voice.”
CELEBRITY APPRENTICE
- Beginning April 14 (9-11 p.m ET) will be expanded to two hours through the end of May.
THE VOICE
- Will air encore episodes on Sunday, March 31 and Sunday, April 7 (7-10 p.m. ET), leading into original episodes of “The Celebrity Apprentice” (10-11 p.m. ET)
GO ON
- Moves to Thursdays on April 4 and April 11, which will be the season’s final episode. Both episodes will air at 9:30-10 p.m. ET following “The Office.”
THE NEW NORMAL
- One-hour season finale on Tuesday, April 2 (9-10 p.m. ET) following “The Voice.”
SMASH

This is a big deal for local stations. Previously, NBC labeled almost all of their "sports specials" with no identification of content in the Nielsen-supplied title. So, buyers and less-than-obsessive sellers really had no way of tracking previous performance or history.
In the past year, there was a movement towards transparency in titling, but it managed to fade in time. This announcement gives me hope NBC will clearly label their "sports specials" in the future.

New York Times is pretty blunt about last night's "Smash" premiere ratings.
Our clients will see an adjustment by Friday.. I'll waitthree days to see if the DVR gods can save this.
I've taken Adults 18-49 ratings to about a 1.5, as I believe the peoplemeter panel skews a bit more upscale urban than my clients' DMA universes.
It may be time for NBC to change the title of its Broadway drama, “Smash.” After its second-season premiere Tuesday night, the show might more appropriately be called, “Smithereens.”
