pah comment.. WOW!  They've sucked in Golf Central Live into the coverage of the Golf Events themselves, which will lower the total ratings of the named event. If NBC heavily weights the local spot avails towards the first half hour, they'll have gamed the system to benefit network advertisers who could be sold peoplemeter numbers later in the telecast by the minute which will always be better than the PAV including the half hour chatter which draws little audience, while local stations will use a PAV of the entire show, which would be an overstatement of the audience they can reach during their front-loaded avails.  But because it will be constant, it will become the new normal.  Oh, and look when it starts.  In three days. Jack Welch would be proud.

President Obama is scheduled to make a speech at the Lincoln Memorial on Wed. 8/28 commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. NBC News will provide a live Optional Special Report at approx. 2:40p ET to cover Obamas speech. Lester Holt will anchor.

Stations wishing to air this coverage should monitor D#15 and switch locally after the :05 NBC News countdown.

NBC Gives Local Stations "Meet The Press" from 50 Years Ago

There will be four feeds available (CH17); all stations MUST SWITCH LOCALLY. All inventory (three and a half minutes) will be for your local use and the special will be closed-captioned.

 We get to go back fifty years ago this weekend to watch how Meet The Press covered the still upcoming March on Washington, led by Martin Luther King, Jr, just days before the "I Have A Dream" speech given after his group finished their march on August 28th.  

A political note:  No matter what your politics or feelings, take this opportunity to watch how people saw and discussed items of racism and economic opportunity in the early 1960's, before partisan sock puppets and corporate shills.  

A personal note:  On August 28th, 1963, I stood with my father on a curb in Washington DC, where he worked for the American Bar Association.  We watched MLK Jr. walk by.  I wish I remembered it better and I certainly couldn't see it well; I had yet to get glasses for my 20/200 vision.  But or a Roman Catholic white kid brought up in a lily-white world, this was the first of many events which rocked me.  Turns out, it was for the better.

 

NBC Sports & Olympics Research Jobs Appear

For a bunch of reasons, I've never been a fan of watching competitive sports on television.

When it comes to sports, I need extra assistance when trying to figure out future estimates.

This job posting from NBC this morning bring me hope for the future of local NBC stations selling NBC Sports.

It would be nice if NBC Sports would share some of the research this person gathers with non-O&O's.    NBC O&O's are now using WideOrbit/OneDomainInc (WOODI) software, managed from a central location by a team of professionals, to handle their own inventory and estimate needs

Even though they maintain them, the folks at 30 Rock aren't sharing their inventory files with non-O&O's..   but then again, I provide local stations with similar services, so I'm glad they didn't "snipe" my business.

Effective this Sunday, August 4 for both Pre and ALL Regular Season NFL games, the first :30 in the two NFL halftime station breaks will be a coverable Network Promo. The total length of each station break is not changing. Continue to use the same :31 Net promo to cue both station breaks and roll over this new :30 coverable Network promo in order to keep the local break the same length.

Also note: the placement of a :30 IMP in the 2 Pre-Season games is shifting from End of 3rd Quarter to Early Halftime to be consistent with the Regular Season format. Again, there is no change to total length of the station breaks.
